Sol Campbell: Macclesfield Town
Make his debut as Macc manager TONIGHT at promotion-chasing Exeter City.

After years of politicking about football managers and colour, he has finally been given his chance. Macclesfield are the WORST club in all the leagues. Even we know that.

Does WHO wish Sol well? He is an ex-Hammer after all.

Re: Sol Campbell: Macclesfield Town
When someone like Arteta goes to Man City he goes to observe and learn and probably see whether he wants to be a main man somewhere
Campbell lacks the humility to shut up and learn. You still have to contribute but you need to listen more than speak and accept having your opinions rejected.
I could see Sol telling Pep that he has it all wrong
If you go to a bigger club like Lampard at Derby or Gerrard at Rangers you can learn on the job and maybe be ready to step up after a while.
But managing a League 2 team however probably teaches you very little that’s useful with a Premier league squad

Re: Sol Campbell: Macclesfield Town
I don't disagree - but if he had any natural talent at managing or leadership he would no doubt have been picked up by a bigger club already whether as a first team coach or Artetaish

He clearly hasn't.

At least Mourinho had the manners to be successful before he started blaming everyone for his shortcomings. Sol skipped the successful stage and went straight to whiney little bitch

Re: Sol Campbell: Macclesfield Town
Just not sure managing at that level is great preparation for managing higher up.
Think it’s more likely these days managers will take the Arteta route and be on the staff of a bigger club as a start.
Managing below the Championship is a different kettle of fish

I'm sure his abject failure will be attributed to racism before long. Poor old Sol. Everyone is against him and won't recognise what a tortured genius he is. Wacism!

Re: Sol Campbell: Macclesfield Town
The thing you find playing at that level is that the other teams you play are also that level.

So it’s all relative innit

Re: Sol Campbell: Macclesfield Town
To be fair to him two of the clubs in Macclesfield & Southend are absolute basket cases.
Not sure what you can do at that level with a bunch of saps who should be playing Sunday league.
The idea that League 1 & 2 players are full time professionals is nonsense

I agree Cough

He built his reputation as being a tough guy and yet Zamora revealed him to to mentally weak. He ruined him.

Since that day, he’s been seen fragile and he hates it

Never been the same since Bobby Zamora took the piss

SOL UPDATE!

Poor Sol seems to find himself in tricky scrapes. After leaving Macclesfield earlier this season over unpaid wages (him AND players), it's not going any better now he's king of Southend.

Already under a transfer embargo, they too have today been charged by the Football League with not paying staff on time AND fielding an inelligible player. I fully expect Sol's next employers will be charged with putting the bins out on the wrong day and/or misuse of a library card.

None of it is Sol's fault. He's not very lucky though, is he?

Re: Sol Campbell: Macclesfield Town
I haven't got it "in for him" any more than any other ex-Tottenham, ex-Arsenal player who I happen to think is also a bit of an arrogant prick.

I do appreciate the severe problems at Macclesfield, but as soon as he got the job he started talking as if it was all a bit beneath him.

To be frank, I don't really care. I don't truly wish him ill. As a self-professed "one of the greatest minds in football", he should have won more games though, even if he did get them out of trouble. The End.

Re: Sol Campbell: Macclesfield Town
He seems to have done a decent job and has only left because of the finances. Maybe if he gets the breaks Lampard and Gerrard have had he will be more successful.

I reckon every single word of that quote is spot on and entirely reasonable. I wouldn’t have a problem with a manager saying any of it.

Re: Sol Campbell: Macclesfield Town
If you have ambition as a manager to be higher up you are wasting your time doing more than a season at that park football level.
You need to move on quickly.
Lampard got a job at Derby, Gerrard got Rangers so he will think that he can get something further up.

Re: Sol Campbell: Macclesfield Town
Sol, on surviving possible relegation in May.

"Who wants to be in this scenario? We’ll be getting grey hairs all day long,” he said. “No one wants to be in this scenario."

"But you’ve got to start right. They didn’t do a proper pre-season, things like that. It’s been all over the place. Those things have got to be addressed before we start again.

“I’m starting next season. And I hope I can see everything is done properly. That’s key really, to make sure we start on a good foot, because that wasn’t the case this season."

He sounds like a nightmare, frankly. It's all about HIM.

Re: Sol Campbell: Macclesfield Town
Macclesfield say they will appoint a new coach ASAP.

I could be wrong, but does Mr "8 wins in 30 games" have an inflated sense of his own worth? Can he endure the tough times?

They probably paid him, a novice, decently. And he did Ok.

I dunno. Don't really care. Bloke just seems to cause trouble. He probably asked them to sign Alexis Sanchez.
